The O’s move quickly to find a replacement for Josh Coulson after it is revealed the Cambridge United centre back will miss the next two months

Leyton Orient have announced the loan signing of Carlisle United defender Mark Ellis on a two-month deal.

The news follows hot on the heels of the confirmation Cambridge United’s Josh Coulson will not play again for the east Londoners until December after suffering a groin injury.

Ellis has worked with O’s head coach Steve Davis before during a two-year spell with Crewe Alexandra and brings a wealth of experience to the club.

The one-time Bolton Wanderers trainee also has made numerous appearances in the Football League and also the National League.

Last season, Ellis was part of the Forest Green which won promotion via the play-offs after joining in January.

Orient will hope he has another promotion on his CV come the end of this campaign and the defender offers the club a much-needed boost after a tough couple of weeks with injuries.

George Elokobi is unlikely to play again for the O’s in 2017 after having surgery on his hamstring, while Coulson will be unavailable for the foreseeable future.

It means Ellis is set to make his full debut on Saturday when AFC Fylde visit Orient in the National League.

A lot will be expected of Jamie Sendles-White now, who has struggled during his early appearances for O’s.

The former Swindon Town centre back no doubt has a lot of talent and is still getting over the anterior cruciate ligament damage injury he suffered in 2016, but Davis will expect a lot from the 23-year-old in the coming weeks.
