The O’s ace had surgery this week on cruciate ligament damage and thanked fans for their support

Leyton Orient fans favourite Dean Cox can’t wait to get back playing for the club already despite only undergoing surgery yesterday (Monday).

The 28-year-old suffered cruciate ligament damage to his knee last month in training and it was confirmed he would miss at least six months of football.

He isn’t the first O’s player to suffer that fate this year as forward Paul McCallum is also out for the foreseeable future with the same injury.

But after going under the knife this week, the Orient ace was quick to thank various people for their support.

“Thanks to my whole family and my beautiful wife over the last couple of weeks standing by me and also Peter Webb for helping me on the way from when I did it. A long way to go I know, but thanks mate,” Cox said on Twitter.

“To the fans you have been unbelievable with your messages, I can’t thank you enough. This club really is a special one I thank you all so much.”

Cox went on to reveal just how much he is already looking forward to playing for Orient again.

He has enjoyed a strong start to the campaign scoring five times in 16 appearances and winning the Sky Bet League Two player of the month award for August.

The former Brighton & Hove Albion youngster has also racked up various assists and head coach Ian Hendon will hope to have the talented attacker back as soon as possible.

Cox added: “I can’t wait to put that shirt back on and walk out at Brisbane Road, thanks again I will never forget it.

“It makes me realise that this football club means everything to me and hope next season when I’m back we are playing League One football.”
