Leyton Orient winger James Dayton says they keep their momentum going after his late goal nicked a 1-0 victory against Chesterfield to make them eight games unbeaten.

The 29-year-old found the net in the 78th minute to earn the three points for the O’s after weathering the storm against Martin Allen’s side at the Proact Stadium.

“It’s a great feeling, we’ve just got to keep that momentum going, the games are coming thick and fast,” Dayton told the club website.

“Momentum is massive in this league and if we can keep that going and like you just said there keep clean sheets and pop up with the odd goal or two then we will win games.”

The former Cheltenham Town man admitted it was a tiring match as they had to work hard to keep The Spireites’ out for long periods of the match.

“Very tired, we’ve worked hard and come away with the three points, that’s the most important thing.

“It was a tough game really to get going, we had a couple little tiny spells, but nowhere near enough that we probably should have but it’s a tough place to come and get three points.”

The winger, who spent majority of last season out of the sidelines injured, says they always knew it would be a tough test and that the squad knew they have enough quality to get a result.

“Last week we had played so well and coming into this week we knew what they was going to be like, we knew they would be tough at it as they’ve been on quite a bad run, but we weathered the storm come in 0-0 and sometimes you’ve got to do that.

“Tough games like this we’ve got to see out those periods and we know we’ve got enough quality in the dressing room to hit them on the counter and get that one chance.”

He also revealed what was going through his head when he hit the shot that eventually won his side the match.

“I just thought hit the target, but there were a lot of bodies, obviously I didn’t mean to stick it in the top corner but there were a lot of bodies and I knew I just had to get it on target and it might have taken a deflection.

“Thankfully it just went straight in.

“It was at a very important time, again second-half I think they was on top, a lot of balls in our box and we had to grind out and that’s what we done.”
