Brisbane Road manager praises Paul McCallum, Jay Simpson, Ollie Palmer and Scott Kashket

Leyton Orient boss Ian Hendon is delighted that his three main strikers are scoring goals and pushing each other despite the new campaign being only four games old.

Paul McCallum demonstrated his ability in pre-season and has taken that form into the League Two season, scoring three times in four matches so far.

Jay Simpson also has three goals while Ollie Palmer netted his first in the recent success against Stevenage and continues to show his ability off the substitute’s bench.

Dean Cox has hit the back of the net twice too and assisted several strikes as the O’s appear to have one of the hottest attacks in the country.

“I know what Paul is like, he will get goals at this level and probably above. I like what I see and I have been working with him for a few years so I know what he is like,” said Hendon.

“Jay has obvious qualities and scored a great goal at Newport. We have ‘Coxy’ popping up in forward areas and he scored one last week as well.

“We are sharing them about and Ollie got off the mark against Stevenage so they are all off the mark so it is good to have that in the squad.”

Hendon also introduced Scott Kashket in the win at Newport, the youngster played the final 16 minutes at Rodney Parade – his first league appearance of the season.

The O’s boss was happy with the 19-year-old, who came close to scoring immediately after coming on before he was halted in the box.

“Scott has got so much energy and gets into good areas,” added Hendon. “He was unfortunate against Newport because he got blocked after he got into the box.

“He is tenacious, he keeps going and he is a little one, but he gets under peoples feet and he nearly created a goal for himself on Saturday.”

The four attacking options available to Hendon at the moment are certainly doing the job.

Although Orient have been linked with other forwards, there is a case to argue that they don’t need any more strengthening up top.
