The Greater Game play will get underway next Tuesday (October 30) and excitement is slowly building ahead of the show’s fight night.

O’s legend Peter Kitchen has helped produce the play, along with Leyton Orient supporter Stephen Jenkins, and it will run at Waterloo East Theatre this year until November 25.

During the final months of 2017, it was hosted by the Southwark Playhouse and received plenty of positive reviews, but this time around it looks set to be even better.

Scott Kyle, who will play George Scott of Clapton Orient, said: “I’m delighted to be part of this amazing project and very grateful to be part of the team who get to tell this incredible story.

“Please come along and support this incredible cast and crew who are bringing this story to life at Waterloo East Theatre.”

Michael Head’s ‘The Greater Game’ is based on Jenkins book titled ‘They Took The Lead’ which tells the story of 41 men from Clapton Orient who signed up to fight in World War One.

It focuses on lifelong friends Richard McFadden and William Jonas, who travelled from Newcastle to London to play football for the O’s before swapping England for France to fight for King and country – a fight neither would survive.

More than a story of football or war, The Greater Game is a story of love, friendship, sacrifice, triumph and loss.

This year’s cast sees Eastenders’ Michael Greco play war hero and football manager Billy Holmes with Harry Potter’s James Phelps playing McFadden.

Phelps said: “I am honoured to be telling the story of Richard McFadden and his fellow Clapton Orient team in the Great War.

“Weeks like this make me so grateful to be an actor after a great week of rehearsals with an amazing cast.”

Other cast members include award winning actor Paul Marlon as well as Victoria Gibson and Helena Doughty.

All of these line up under the stewardship of multi-award winning director Adam Morley, who will present The Greater Game as part of Football Remembers.
