Leyton Orient head coach Ian Hendon was full of praise for three of the younger members of his squad after seeing them impress in the 6-1 triumph over Staines Town last weekend.

The O’s romped past the Ryman Premier outfit to reach the second round of the FA Cup after Ollie Palmer and Dean Cox scored twice in the first half.

John Marquis and Sean Clohessy added further strikes late on to confirm their progression and add some gloss to the scoreline.

With the east Londoners in complete control after the first period, it allowed Hendon to introduce Freddy Moncur in the 63rd minute and Scott Kashket six minutes later.

The duo impressed and Frazer Shaw also caught the eye at left-back after making his first appearance since September 29.

“I thought Frazer was excellent. He got forward at the right times and more importantly for me he defended very well,” said Hendon.

“He had a tricky one up against him, stood up and held his ground and did a fantastic job. He has set his benchmark now and has to continue doing that.

“Scott can play. He gets in little pockets, gets on the turn and plays little threaded through balls and he has to continue to do that in every game he plays whether it is the first team or the reserves or even in training.

“That is what he has got in the locker and what he needs to keep bringing out every time he plays.”

Kashket and Shaw have featured several times this season in various competitions, but Moncur made his Brisbane Road debut on Saturday.

The 19-year-old made his Orient bow in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy against Luton Town back in September and impressed on that occasion.

And on Saturday the son of former West Ham favourite John Moncur took his chance again and left Hendon happy.

He said: “Freddy is just like his brother George, who I had at West Ham and is now at Colchester United and doing very well.

“Freddy is of a very similar mould, he has a great work ethic and trains hard. If you look at the physical stats that he puts out every day and in matches he would probably be above everyone else out on the pitch.

“He gives you energy and is a lovely kid as well. He is nice to work with, always got a smile on his face and he deserved his opportunity against Staines.”
