The O’s striker made his senior international bow recently, but couldn’t prevent his country suffering two defeats

It has been a mixed few days for Leyton Orient forward Macauley Bonne, who made his international debut for Zimbabwe.

The former Colchester United striker has been a rare positive for O’s this season and his nine goals in all competitions earned him a call-up to the senior Warriors squad.

Bonne linked up with his country after Orient’s 2-1 defeat at Gillingham on November 4 and started for Zimbabwe in their friendly with Lesotho on Wednesday evening.

Orient’s top goalscorer played the full 90 minutes, yet was unable to prevent a 1-0 loss with the hosts scoring their winning goal in stoppage time.

It represented a disappointing full debut for the Warriors and Bonne was looking to help his nation bounce back on Saturday.

Zimbabwe visited Namibia and Bonne this time had to be content with a place among the substitutes.

Namibia made a strong start and took the lead inside four minutes before they made it 2-0 with 18 on the clock.

Tendai Ndoro pulled a goal back for the Warriors from the penalty spot, but the hosts added another to ensure it was 3-1 at half time.

Bonne was introduced in an attempt to try and spark a comeback and despite going close with two efforts, Zimbabwe suffered another frustrating defeat.

Nevertheless, it would have been a memorable experience for the O’s striker and he’ll hope to build on this when he returns to Brisbane Road ahead of Saturday’s National League match with Dover Athletic.
