Kevin Nolan’s perfect start to life as Leyton Orient player-manager was halted on Saturday as Cambridge United picked up all three points.

There was little the Brisbane Road boss could do as he watched on whilst his side conceded three very sloppy goals at home.

Armand Gnanduillet pulled one back, after impressing again off the bench, but it couldn’t help the O’s earn more success under Nolan.

Alex Cisak (6) – He might have done a little bit better with first goal and was beaten at his near post too easily for second.

Sean Clohessy (6.5) – Full back delivered a couple of dangerous balls into the box, but Cambridge defended very well.

Mathieu Baudry (6.5) – O’s captain went close with first half header and was solid throughout, but could do little about third goal.

Connor Essam (4) – Bad day at the office for the defender, despite looking back to his best recently. Second and third goal were due to his mistakes.

Frazer Shaw (7) – Left-back made a shocking back pass for the U’s opener, but bounced back really well and had a very good game - including making one exceptional clearance.

Calaum Jahraldo-Martin (6) – Hull City loanee tried to make inroads into the away defence, he was often dealt with well and substituted just after half time.

Jack Payne (6) - Little effect on the game and was replaced as Orient looked to get back into it after the break.

Nigel Atangana (6.5) – He worked hard throughout, but could do little as mistakes by defenders resulted in several Cambridge goals.

Jobi McAnuff (6.5) – Not the wingers’ best afternoon as some of his set pieces weren’t as good as usual, but never stopped trying.

Ollie Palmer (6) – Big forward always gives his all, but was coming too deep to try and get involved in play, which left his striker partner isolated.

Jay Simpson (6) – Frustrating afternoon for League Two’s top goalscorer as he was forced to play off scraps and marshalled well by Leon Legge.

Substitutes:

Armand Gnanduillet, for Palmer 53. (7) – French forward made another positive impact, got on the scoresheet and looked a threat. Surely worth a start at Portsmouth.

Blair Turgott, for Jahraldo-Martin 58. (6.5) – Pacy winger looked to attack the Cambridge defence and had one decent effort on goal.

Kevin Nolan, for Payne 67. (6) – O’s player-manager looked a bit rusty, but did get into a great position late on, unfortunately he failed to hit the target. Once he is fully fit, that will no doubt hit the back of the net.
