Millwall man confident he will score goals for Leyton Orient during loan spell at Brisbane Road

Leyton Orient forward John Marquis is hoping his spell at Brisbane Road can be a success and is confident he will score goals at League Two level.

The 23-year-old has moved to east London from parent club Millwall on a 93-day deal and made his debut during last weekend’s 3-2 defeat at Crawley Town.

He has been loaned out seven times prior to joining the O’s and enjoyed great success at Gillingham last year in League One.

Marquis showed his ability on Saturday by creating Jay Simpson’s second and is hoping for more opportunities.

“I have had a few more training sessions under my belt this week and played the game. I knew a few people before I come here so I am settling in nicely,” said the Lions striker.

“I have played a little bit with Jay at Millwall when he was on loan there before. I was only young, but I had a couple of games with him then so I know a bit about him and it was nice to get an assist for him on Saturday.

“After a loss you always want the next game to come straight away so you can make amends, but we have worked really hard this week and put a good bit of work in on the training ground and done tactical work as well to be ready for Oxford United.”

Marquis didn’t need to think twice about joining Orient such is his desire to play football rather than be an unused substitute.

Chances have been few and far between at Millwall, but the forward is confident in his own ability.

He feels if he is playing regularly that he can score goals for the O’s and push them towards their target for the campaign.

“I have always wanted to play football. I don’t like sitting around and not getting an opportunity so when this chance came around I was willing to jump at it,” added Marquis.

“I have been on loan before in this division and in the league above as well so hopefully I can bring something to the team here and help us move forward.

“Going into a club and getting a regular run of games is a big thing for me and I back my ability. When I get a chance and a run of matches I feel I will be able to score goals at this level.

“I showed last season I can do it at the division above. For me it is about getting consistency and game time under my belt and being able to show people what I am about and what I can do.”

Marquis will hope to do that again on Saturday at Brisbane Road.
