Brisbane Road boss believes team can earn more joy against Paul Cook’s Pompey

Leyton Orient make the trip to Portsmouth tomorrow (Saturday) and Kevin Nolan is confident they can complete a League Two double over the south coast side.

The O’s player-manager wasn’t involved in the previous encounter between the two on Boxing Day - previous head coach Ian Hendon was in charge.

It finished 3-2 to the east Londoners after a dramatic afternoon at Brisbane Road where Ollie Palmer struck a brace and Jay Simpson netted from the penalty spot.

Ahead of the rematch at Fratton Park, Nolan expects a difficult match up against Paul Cook, but believes his team can come out on top.

He said: “It is going to be a tough game, it always is when you go down to Pompey. In my time playing them, whether they were Championship or Premier League, you never get an easy game there.

“I don’t expect anything different from Cooky’s side and I know his assistant Leam Richardson very well. I played with him at Bolton, he is a good lad and a grafter and a fighter so I expect exactly the same from Portsmouth on Saturday.

“But hopefully we can go there and get rid of the individual errors we were making last week, put them right and get a positive result and come away with three points.”

Orient were their own worst enemy last Saturday as three poor mistakes allowed Cambridge United to win 3-1 at Brisbane Road.

Nolan and his squad have gone over the match and he is confident they won’t make the same errors this weekend.

He added: “We are hoping it will be a fantastic match with Portsmouth, but I don’t really want the goals going in against us because there has been too many of them this season!

“When you have a player like Jay Simpson up front and topping the goalscorer charts by a long way, you should be up there or there abouts already and that has been the disappointing aspect.

“It has shown last week why we are conceding so many goals when we are making sloppy mistakes. I have had the lads in for a video this week.

“It is not just them lads who have made one mistake, I think throughout the team on Saturday we made a lot of mistakes and individual errors that we wouldn’t normally make and that has been highlighted this week and we are hoping to rectify it at Portsmouth.”
