Brisbane Road boss looks ahead to clash with League Two leaders

Kevin Nolan is looking to cut the gap between Leyton Orient and the teams at the top of the League Two table on Saturday.

They have a fantastic chance to do that when leaders Northampton Town visit Brisbane Road this weekend.

Cobblers are 15 points ahead of the O’s having played two games less, but Nolan is still aiming to try and catch the pace setters.

He joked Orient will need more quality in the box, though, after his miss from close range in the 1-0 win at Portsmouth last Saturday.

“You have to look forward to the games against all the top teams in the division and if you manage to take three points off them you are cutting the gap on them,” said Nolan.

“We need to play them at some time, we are at our place so hopefully we will be looking for more of the same as what we had against Portsmouth.

“We want to put in a good, solid performance and show a lot of quality, although not so much quality from some of us in the six-yard box.”

It was an excellent result for the east Londoners and Nolan talked about making sure they impose themselves on Cobblers.

The last time the League Two leaders lost was against Pompey back in December, but Orient want to change that.

Nolan added: “We had a fantastic win and we’re now in the play-offs and that’s where we want to be.

“It is going to be another tough game against Northampton, we need to make sure that we impose ourselves on them and we get the three points.”

On the result last weekend, O’s three points enabled them to go ahead of the south coast side in the battle for promotion.

Nolan believes that while some teams have games in hand on Orient, having the points already isn’t a bad position to be in.

He said: “The biggest thing about the win on Saturday was that we went above them.

“I know they have a couple of games in hand, but it puts the pressure on Portsmouth to make sure they win those matches.

“We are coming down to the tail end of the season and obviously we’ll know soon where we are and what we need to do, but that was a massive win for us especially after the Cambridge United defeat.”
