Leyton Orient boss Ian Hendon expects Darius Henderson to be on top of his game on Saturday when Scunthorpe United visit Brisbane Road.

The Iron make the trip to east London to face the O’s in the second round of the famous competition.

In their ranks will be Henderson, who left Orient during the summer after just one year at the club.

Although he has failed to score for his new side since moving to Glanford Park, Hendon expects the forward to cause his team problems.

“I would expect if Darius does start, you know what it is like going back to an old club you want to do even better than normal,” said the O’s head coach.

“He will probably play above and beyond what he has been playing all season and probably put in a sterling performance.

“That is what we will expect from him if he plays or comes on so we’ll have to be aware of that.

“We have had Scunthorpe watched during their last three games so seen plenty of videos and got reports on them.

“We have an idea what to expect and we’ll do what we normally do, set up to play against that and hopefully on the day the players do well and we get a result.”

Hendon won the FA Youth Cup at Tottenham Hotspur in 1990 and although he was involved in the first team during the following season, he didn’t win a medal as Spurs triumphed in the final of the proper tournament.

The Orient boss believes the competition is brilliant for lower league teams and revealed who he’d like to play in the next round, if they can get past Scunthorpe.

“I won the FA Youth Cup, but sadly I didn’t win the real thing! When I was at Spurs as a youngster I travelled with the first team when they beat Forest in 91 so I have had an experience of it, although I didn’t get a medal and play,” said Hendon.

“I’d love to have done that, but it is a great competition to be in - especially for teams in the lower leagues that want to hopefully get through and draw a big team in the next round.

“I’d love to play West Ham, Tottenham or Sunderland, I’d love to play against Sam Allardyce this quickly – it would be great.

“Tottenham or West Ham and I guess the dream one is Manchester United away because everybody wants to go and play there.

“First things first we have a game at home against Scunthorpe and we have to try and get over that hurdle. If we do we can look forward to Monday night, watching the TV and hoping we get one of the big guns.”
