Kevin Nolan delighted to sign Peterborough ace and reveals he has final say on transfers at the club

Leyton Orient have confirmed the loan signing of Peterborough defender Shaun Brisley on a deal until the end of the campaign.

Player-manager Kevin Nolan revealed last night, after their match with Newport County, that the 25-year-old had moved to Brisbane Road.

The switch was officially completed this afternoon and the Posh ace trained with his new team mates today .

He has spent time on loan at League Two rivals Northampton Town already this season and impressed for them.

While at the Cobblers, he faced Orient in September and was the closest person to forward Paul McCallum when he suffered cruciate ligament damage to his knee.

Now part of the east Londoners squad, he will be hoping to play a big role in their push for promotion to League One.

“The assistant will have to take a back-burner until next week because of the games we have got, but we have a new arrival from Peterborough in Shaun Brisley,” said Nolan after the match with Newport.

“He is a centre half so I am delighted we have got him through the door. We were hoping to get him on the bench, but he had a few scans he needed to do and a medical. I’ll be speaking to the president and his support staff about maybe getting in a couple more.

“I have been thrilled with the communication and cooperation I have had with them so onwards and upwards. I am hoping this becomes a positive relationship which gets us back to where we want to be - in League One.”

Nolan confirmed he has the final say regarding which players move to Brisbane Road and believes Brisley will be a big success.

The 25-year-old former Macclesfield man hasn’t played a competitive match since suffering a knee injury for Northampton back in October.

But he will be keen to put pressure on O’s captain Mathieu Baudry and Connor Essam during his time at the club.

“It is up to me if I want a player or if I don’t, he doesn’t come. We tried to get a couple in last week and it didn’t materalise,” said Nolan.

“When we spoke to Shaun he was really eager to join and that delighted me. I wanted to get him in the door as quickly as possible because it creates competition.

“It keeps our two centre halves on top of their game. They have kept two clean sheets, but they know if they don’t keep one on Saturday they could get dragged and the new lad could be in.

“That is what I want to create - competition through the squad and a healthy competition and bringing somebody of Shaun’s quality is going to bring that.”
