Midfielder, on-loan from Peterborough United, believes they can knock out Scunthorpe United on Saturday

Although Leyton Orient midfielder Jack Payne expects Scunthorpe to be tough opposition this weekend, he doesn’t feel there is that much difference between the third and fourth tier of English football.

The O’s are underdogs on Saturday in the second round of the FA Cup as they welcome the Iron, who are 14th in League One, to Brisbane Road.

Ian Hendon’s team sit eighth in League Two table, but are targeting promotion this season.

But the focus for this weekend is progressing to the third round of the FA Cup and Payne believes the east Londoners are more than capable of achieving that.

He said: “I think they’ll be a good side, organised, but if we go out and play - we are more than capable of beating a team from the division above. If we can go out and play to our potential we’ll have a good day.

“There isn’t much difference between the top half of League Two and the bottom half of League One.

“This weekend just means we can get away from the league a little bit so there is no pressure on us to win games.

“We are the underdogs because they are the league higher, but it means we can go out, play and enjoy it.”

Payne doesn’t have too many FA Cup memories, but did find the net against Bournemouth in 2011.

He is hoping to create more with the O’s, though, and looking forward to having a break from League Two when Scunthorpe visit tomorrow.

When Orient continue their league campaign at Mansfield Town on December 12, the Peterborough midfielder hopes his current side are still unbeaten and in the FA Cup.

“We are unbeaten in three now so we are on a little run and we want to keep that going this weekend and hopefully go back into the league four games unbeaten,” said Payne.

“I scored in the FA Cup at Bournemouth to help Gillingham get a replay and then we beat them so that isn’t a bad FA Cup memory, but I have not had many. I was on the bench against Aston Villa too, but didn’t get on.

“It just takes the pressure off us this week a little bit because they are in League One and it lets us just go out and play.”

Orient will hope they can progress against the Iron and then they can dream of a plum third round tie.
