McAnuff: Manager has decisions to make

Leyton Orient midfielder Jobi McAnuff says boss Fabio Liverani has got problems.

O’s welcome in-form Barnsley to Brisbane Road tonight on the back of a 3-0 win over relegation rivals Yeovil at the weekend.

But the Tykes arrive in search of a seventh successive victory and McAnuff said: “They’re going really well and won again so it will be a tough game, but if we play like we did on Saturday.

“Everyone’s coming back fitness-wise so I think the manager’s biggest problem now is trying to get a team out there without disappointing too many players really.

“Everyone’s champing at the bit to be out there and playing well, so it’s up to us players to give him that headache and it’s his job to pick the team, obviously, to get the result, which we did.”

Early goals from Chris Dagnall and Ryan Hedges put Orient on top against the Glovers and the margin could have been much wider as they also hit the woodwork twice in the first half.

McAnuff sealed the points with a third goal on the hour, his first for the club since late September, and paid tribute to Italian boss Liverani, who gave his pre-match team-talk and post-match press conference in English.

“He’s trying hard. It’s not easy for people,” added McAnuff.

“He’s come over and doesn’t speak much English, he’s really making a big effort to get his message across and you’ve got to respect him for that.”

The 33-year-old McAnuff also had praise for fellow midfielders Josh Wright and Ryan Hedges, with the latter returning from injury after missing the 1-0 defeat at Peterborough to net his second goal for the club.

And he is hoping the team can pick up something against Barnsley, ahead of crunch clashes with Crawley and Coventry in the next couple of weeks.

He added: “Josh has done great since he’s come in. I think he’s been really consistent and he gets on the ball, always wants the ball and tries to make us play.

“Ry has done great since he’s been in. I thought we missed him a bit last week, he gives us good balance I feel when he’s in the team, and he’s an exciting young player.

“We’ve got some massive games coming up against teams in and around us so it’s important first and foremost to make sure we don’t lose. But obviously if we can win it gives us a good advantage with the remaining games coming.”
