Simpson wants to help Orient turn draws into wins

League Two top goalscorer has been in stunning form and is targeting more success at Morecambe

Leyton Orient forward Jay Simpson is determined to help the O’s turn their draws into wins, starting at Morecambe tomorrow (Saturday).

Ian Hendon’s have been held in five of their last nine matches in League Two and it has resulted in them dropping to sixth in the table.

Although the east Londoners have been beaten by Exeter City, Carlisle United and Crawley Town in the division this season, their tally of 23 points is more than respectable and puts them in a good position with just under a third of the campaign completed.

They will come up against a free-scoring Morecambe outfit, however, this weekend, but Orient’s top goalscorer is confident.

Simpson: “It would be great to get a win on Saturday. It has only been three losses in 14, which you would take at the beginning of the season.

“But if we could have turned a few of our draws into wins, we might have been sitting at the top.

“This weekend we have another opportunity to get a victory, we will go up to Morecambe and try to get the three points and push on.”

It could be a thriller encounter at the Globe Arena with the Seasiders scoring 31 times in the division this year.

Orient have the leading marksmen in the league with Simpson, who has 11 already, and he discussed what it is like playing in the current side.

He added: “At times strikers can worry about where the next chance is coming from, but the players we have got in this team we know we are always going to create chances.

“If you miss one you have to stay alert because you know another one is coming.”

Simpson will hope to add to his tally tomorrow and in the process earn the O’s a seventh victory of the campaign.

That would most likely move them up the table, but the former Arsenal man doesn’t mind the position Orient are currently in, adding: “We are only 14 games in so there is a long way to go.

“Come May we want to be in the top three and we need to stay with the pack. Sixth in the table isn’t a bad position to be at the moment.

“We know there are a lot more matches to come and we will be aiming to win a lot more and hopefully get in the top three.”
