The O’s head coach has a nice selection headache ahead of hosting the National League leaders

Steve Davis should have plenty more players at his disposal when Leyton Orient host National League leaders Macclesfield Town today.

It has been a busy few weeks for the O’s with the east Londoners starting the month with some time up north after facing Tranmere Rovers and Barrow in quick succession.

Davis then had to prepare his squad to face Dagenham & Redbridge in the FA Cup last weekend, but after the two clubs played out a goalless draw, they did battle again on Tuesday at Brisbane Road with Orient running out 1-0 winners.

The east Londoners now face the Silkmen, before also entertaining Gateshead next Tuesday (October 24), but their head coach hopes to have Jobi McAnuff available after he sat out the 0-0 draw at Victoria Road.

“He is injured,” said Davis, when asked why the former Reading and Watford winger missed the first FA Cup clash.

“We have five senior players (Matt Harrold, Josh Coulson, George Elokobi and Charlie Lee) who would be playing in the team, so it’s half of the side gone.

“I don’t think the injury is serious, it’s in Jobi’s groin and he’s carried it for the last few weeks and we felt another game would make it worse.

“We didn’t want to have the same scenario we had with Coulson, so we decided not to involve Jobi. He might be back for Saturday.”

Even if McAnuff remains on the sidelines for this weekend’s clash with Macclesfield, Davis will have Mark Ellis and James Brophy back in contention to face the leaders.

Both were ineligible to play in the FA Cup due to the terms of their loan agreements from Carlisle United and Swindon Town.

The return of Ellis and Brophy will increase the competition for places in defence with Davis playing right-back Myles Judd on the left of a back five on Saturday at Dagenham.

Joe Widdowson, usually a left-back, also continued on the left side of the three centre backs, so Orient’s head coach will welcome the return of more players in that position.

Alex Lawless should also be fit to face Macclesfield after coming off with a groin problem last weekend having picked up his fifth booking of the season, which saw him ruled out of the FA Cup replay on Tuesday.
