QPR chairman chairman Tony Fernandes is striving for stability, survival and making sure QPR sign players who want to play for the club this season, rather than just picking up their wages.

The Rs chairman is determined to not make the same mistakes as he did last time the club were promoted to the Premier League.

He said: “There is a playing budget. There is a plan – there is a number. It is a finite budget.

“We want any thought from any agent that they can get more money out of QPR to disappear completely. I want to break even, lose a little bit or make some money.

“There is a balance. I think we went for a lot of players from big clubs two years ago.”

Nottingham Forest rejected a bid for highly rated defender Jamaal Lascelles but Fernandes says the club will continue to look to the football league for new players.

Mark Davies from Bolton Wanderers is one man who could soon be arriving at Loftus Road and Fernandes said he would not be opposed to signing a player from League One.

He said: “The good thing is we are looking there, the whole philosophy has changed. We don’t want a large squad. We had seven strikers at the end of last season.

“Let’s have a lean squad and make sure that every player we bring in enhances the squad. Football is a balance. If we sign seven 35-year-olds then you will say, ‘what are you doing Tony?’

“I want players who want to play for us. If we make a good offer - then we have to ask, does he really want to play for us? Is he really going to go out there and fight his guts out in the middle of winter when we are in a relegation fight?

“Wait and see - it is going to be a good mixture.”
