West Ham United ended a run of three successive Premier League defeats with victory over top flight new boys Huddersfield on Monday.

The hosts struck twice in the last 20 minutes to take the points and ease the pressure on boss Slaven Bilic, who gave striker Andy Carroll his first start after recovering from a groin injury.

But the nature of the win did not sit easily with supporters, who will hope to see a bit more style as the season develops, starting against West Brom at The Hawthorns this weekend.

East London neighbours Dagenham & Redbridge were knocked off the top of the National League table by a 1-0 defeat at Hartlepool at the weekend, then slumped to a last-minute home defeat against Sutton in midweek.

That saw John Still’s men drop to eighth in the table ahead of a Victoria Road visit from Halifax Town on Saturday, after they upset Leyton Orient 3-0 at Brisbane Road on Tuesday.

The O’s had suffered a 2-0 loss at Boreham Wood at the weekend and now find themselves in ninth place ahead of a 12.30pm start against Hartlepool on Saturday, in front of the BT Sport cameras.

Archant London’s Dave Evans, George Sessions and Jacob Ranson discuss all with Matt Withers in our latest podcast.
