Leyton Orient have yet another new man in charge of first-team affairs following this week’s appointment of Justin Edinburgh as head coach.

The former Tottenham defender succeeds interim boss Ross Embleton, who had been holding the fort since the departure of Steve Davis, and will lead O’s into National League action for the first time at bottom club Solihull Moors this weekend.

And the Brisbane Road club could certainly do with a lift from the new boss as they hover just three points above the relegation zone, having gone eight matches without a win in all competitions since their FA Cup replay success over Dagenham & Redbridge.

Neighbours West Ham United are three games into the David Moyes era but have taken just one point from a possible nine and are in the Premier League’s drop zone after a 4-0 midweek humbling at Wayne Rooney-inspired Everton.

Rooney hit a hat-trick at Goodison Park as newly announced Toffees boss Sam Allardyce looked on from the stands, capping his treble with a wonder strike from inside his own half.

The short-term future looks particularly bleak for the Hammers, who visit runaway leaders Manchester City on Sunday, before hosting top-four rivals Chelsea and Arsenal.

The news is much better at Dagenham & Redbridge, who find themselves in fifth place in the National League and on a three-game winning streak, having eased to a 4-0 success at Chester in front of the BT Sport cameras last weekend.

John Still’s men do not play this weekend, though, as scheduled opponents Boreham Wood are in FA Cup action at Coventry on Sunday, but face the long trip to Barrow on December 9.

Archant London’s Dave Evans, Ned Keating and Jacob Ranson discuss O’s, Hammers and Daggers, among other things, in the latest podcast with Matt Withers.
