Struggling West Ham United were expected to suffer a thrashing at Premier League leaders Manchester City, but so nearly came away with a point before falling to a late 2-1 defeat.
New manager David Moyes saw further signs of improvement in his fourth match in charge, but it does not get any easier for the Hammers as they welcome Chelsea to London Stadium for a Saturday lunchtime derby this weekend, before entertaining Arsenal on Wednesday.
The most pressing decision appears to be between the posts, where Moyes must decide whether to reinstate Joe Hart – who was ineligible to face parent club City – or keep faith with Adrian, who performed well at the Etihad.
Leyton Orient boss Justin Edinburgh also has plenty to consider as National League leaders Sutton come to Brisbane Road.
O’s slipped to a 1-0 loss at bottom club Solihull Moors in Edinburgh’s first match in charge and are just three points above the relegation zone at the midway mark of the season.
But after a full week on the training ground with his new squad, can the former Tottenham defender inspire an end to their 15-match winless run?
Dagenham & Redbridge will look to maintain their promotion hopes at the other end of the table as they return to action, after a free weekend, with a long trip to Barrow.
John Still’s men beat the north west club 2-1 on the opening day of the season and a fourth successive victory could lift them to fourth.
The club is also developing more talent in its academy, with another graduate from the scheme being touted for a promotion to first-team action in the near future.
Archant London’s Dave Evans, George Sessions, Ned Keating and guest Will Perridge discuss these matters and more with Matt Withers in our latest podcast.
