The international break has come at a good time for West Ham United as they lick their wounds following three successive Premier League defeats.

Their latest reverse at top flight new boys Newcastle, following the earlier surrenders at Manchester United and Southampton, has left manager Slaven Bilic under growing pressure, with the club’s first home game of the new campaign up next against Huddersfield.

Neighbours Leyton Orient are starting to find their feet in the National League, though, and now sit in third place after taking four points from a possible six at the Bank Holiday weekend.

Craig Clay’s 98th-minute goal rescued a 1-1 draw against Eastleigh at Brisbane Road on Saturday, with Macauley Bonne heading the only goal of the game at Maidenhead on Monday.

O’s host lowly Guiseley this weekend, while east London rivals Dagenham & Redbridge – who sit above them in the table on goal difference – welcome Gateshead to Victoria Road.

John Still’s men remain unbeaten in seven matches, having beaten Bromley 5-1 and drawn 0-0 at Maidstone, but faced a nervous end to the transfer window.

Sunday sees Romford and Hornchurch in the first qualifying round of the FA Cup, meanwhile, and Archant London’s Dave Evans, George Sessions and Ned Keating discuss all with Matt Withers in our latest podcast of 2017/18.
