West Ham welcome Arsenal to the London Stadium for their next Premier League test this weekend, with both clubs smarting from EFL Cup exits in midweek.

The Hammers – and Archant’s West Ham correspondent Dave Evans – travelled to Old Trafford twice in the space of four days, but after a dogged 1-1 draw in the league on Sunday, they saw their Wembley dreams shattered by a 4-1 defeat on Wednesday.

The Gunners, meanwhile, made 10 changes to the side that had beaten Bournemouth at the Emirates at the weekend for the visit of Southampton and suffered a 2-0 loss, their first reverse since the opening day of the season which ended a 19-match unbeaten run in all competitions.

Slaven Bilic’s men took four points from a possible six against Arsene Wenger’s squad last season, memorably winning 2-0 in north London on the first day of the season, before Andy Carroll’s hat-trick helped secure a 3-3 draw at Upton Park in April.

But who earns the bragging rights this time will not be known until around 7.20pm on Saturday evening.

Leyton Orient have a free weekend, having already been knocked out of the FA Cup, but George Sessions considers the change of management and the start of the Andy Edwards era at Doncaster.

Dagenham & Redbridge have dropped out of the play-off places in the National League after back-to-back home defeats against Barrow and Torquay and head to in-form Dover Athletic.

Lee Power considers the form of his home-town club in the absence of the holidaying Ned Keating in the latest our new regular podcasts, presented by Archant London’s executive digital editor Matt Withers.
