Dave Evans introduces the Hammers Supplement – When West Ham were the Kings of Europe

It may have been 50 years ago since West Ham conquered Europe with a magnificent win in the Cup Winners’ Cup at Wembley, but the memories and glory of that night still resonate with those who played, those who saw it and now a new generation of Hammers fans.

In recognition of that marvellous day, the Recorder, the local newspaper for West Ham, put together a special supplement to mark the occasion and it proved to be a real labour of love.

I spoke to the stars from that time like Martin Peters, Ronnie Boyce and Ken Brown, I spoke to some of the fans who were there that night at Wembley and I spoke to Ant Sealey, son of match-winner Alan, who had so many fond and emotional memories of his Dad.

We have also looked back on how the local newspaper covered the match and the celebrations afterwards.

If you can’t pick up a copy of the supplement, and do try, then over the next three days we will be celebrating that momentous night with a series of articles.

Just look out for the WEST HAM 1965 headline and read all about what is arguably the GREATEST NIGHT IN WEST HAM HISTORY.
