Nine Tigers JFC players were presented with certificates to reward their committment to the FA Football Futures programme.

The youngsters offered up their spare time to help volunteer with the Essex FA and were given their certificates by the county’s Football Development Officer Andrew Crowl.

He witnessed over 125 children enjoying training as youngsters of all abilities participated in organised sessions, that were run by several of the club’s players including James Butcher.

The 15-year-old revealed he signed up for the initiative because he believes young children are being driven away from the beautfiul game.

““I have an interest in getting into coaching and I feel more people should get involved to help younger players stay in the game for longer. It’s great to see the little ones with smiles on their faces, enjoying the game,” said Butcher.

“It has boosted my confidence and there’s plenty of support and guidance. I’ve found working in smaller groups enables players to have more one-to-one coaching, which supports their development.”

Toni Woodgate’s six-year-old daughter has recently joined the Hornchurch-based club and revealed the ethos at the Tigers was one of the reasons why they signed up.

The club encourage all players regardless of ability and it has a positive environment with young, enthusiastic coaches. I feel that young players are more likely to stay in the game if they have good role models and it can promote valuable life skills such as hard work, commitment and responsibility.”
