New weekly Wheelchair Tennis sessions are being launched by Choice International at Redbridge Sport & Leisure on Saturday, March 11.

Wheelchair Tennis is one of the fastest growing and popular sports for disabled people, as those with a wide range of physical impairments can play, including those with paraplegia, polio, spina bifida, cerebral pals and mutiple sclerosis.

Amputees and those with brittle bones can also compete and disability sport improves quality of life for disabled people and promotes diversity and inclusion.

The free, have-a-go session is open to disabled people, family and anyone passionate about disability sports and social inclusion, aged 10 and over, and will take place between 5-7pm at the Forest Road venue.

Two sessions will run simultaneously for beginners and more experienced players, led by coaches Mark and Samanta Bullock, who will be assisted by Jack Dowsett and Manoj Soma.

Mark Bullock was the Great Britain national team coach from 1995-98 and personal coach to former British number one Jayant Mistry and has worked in various roles in tennis, including a development officer post in Nottingham and Cardiff, as general manager of the Nottingham Tennis Centre, and as wheelchair tennis development officer and manager for the International Tennis Federation (ITF).

An advisor to Choice International, he runs a consultancy focusing on inclusive sport, while Samanta Bullock is a former number one from Brazil, with a career-high ranking of 44.

As well as representing Brazil at three World Team Cups, she won the 2005 Argentina Open and a doubles silver at the 2007 Para Pan Am Games in Rio.

Redbridge Sport & Leisure Centre is accessible to wheelchair users, with transport links and more than 400 free car-parking spaces, included dedicated disabled bays.
