London Raiders have announced the re-signing of forward Alan Lack and the addition of stay-at-home defenceman Sean Barry for the 2017/18 season, writes Jacob Ranson.

The Lee Valley-based outfit welcome back hard-working winger Lack for a second term and he says he is looking forward to the new season.

The 24-year-old said: “I am really looking forward to the new season coming up. It’s going to be a good year, especially as the standard has been raised.”

Lack joined the club midway through last season, after starting the campaign at with English Premier League club Basingstoke Bison, before leaving for personal reasons.

The hard-working winger played for Raiders in the 2014/15 season, after joining midway through that campaign from Peterborough Phantoms, before spending the 2015/16 season with the Bison where he was able to celebrate winning the EPL title.

Both his former clubs are now in the National League with Raiders and he added: “It’s going to be great playing against my old teams.”

Lack is also excited about the future of the club with the new coaching system in place and a new town centre rink set to open in 2018.

“London Raiders are in for a big season with new changes to the team and coaching staff,” he said.

“With the new rink coming up and returning to Romford it’s going to be a great experience for all of us. With a new structure and new team-mates I believe we are in for a really good year.”

Joining him on the roster this season is young defenceman Barry, who joins from Essex rivals Chelmsford Chieftains, where he has spent his whole career.

The 23-year-old, who picked up 11 assists in 28 league appearances for the Chieftains last term, says he cannot wait for a new challenge and to continue working alongside coach Sean Easton.

“I can’t wait to get on the ice in front of the gold and blue army,” said Barry. “After speaking to Sean over the past few weeks I’m looking forward to getting on the ice with the new team and challenging for some silverware.”

Barry, whose signing takes Raiders to 16 players, was also very grateful to the Chieftains for his time at the club, adding: “I’d like to thank Derek and Karen (Bartlett) and the Chieftains supporters for the past few seasons.”
