London Raiders head coach Sean Easton wants to see how far his side have come as they look to pay Streatham IHC back for three defeats earlier this season, writes Jacob Ranson.

The Lee Valley-based club welcome their London rivals on Saturday (5.30pm) as they look to continue their impressive recent form.

They go into the match on the back of a four-point weekend after a 6-3 win at Peterborough Phantoms and a 3-2 penalty shoot-out victory against Milton Keynes at home the following night.

“Streatham will be a great measuring stick for us to see how far we have come,” said Easton.

“The first three weekends we played Streatham and suffered close defeats, now a month on we shall see our progression.”

The former Chelmsford Chieftains coach believes their victory against league leaders Peterborough Phantoms last weekend will have sent a message out to the rest of the league.

“The message was that we, along with Streatham and Invicta, can compete with these teams,” added Easton.

“They won’t have it their own way and we are not here to make up numbers. The question is can we be competitive all season or was this a one off? That’s what we need to find out.”

Easton believes his team still need to adapt to the new league format and admits he wants to build a winning mentality at the club after almost slipping up against Milton Keynes.

“MK was definitely a hangover performance after the heroics the night before,” he said.

“There were a lot of tired bodies and knocks and bruises. These guys are still adapting to being pushed two games a weekend, but to come away with our first four-point weekend is a fantastic feeling.

“At 2-1 down we really turned the heat up and it was night and day difference from the previous tempo before we went behind. We wanted it and we earnt it, just about.

“It was great to get our first overtime win and that will build confidence the next time we find ourselves in that spot.

“It’s been a culture change for myself and I keep hammering into the team a winning mentality. To perform every shift, every game is a must, not an option.”
