Chelmsford Chieftains 5 London Raiders 0 (8-2 on aggregate)
London Raiders saw hopes of a National League cup upset shattered by champions Chelmsford at the Riverside Ice Arena last night.
Alan Blyth’s men had produced a battling display in the first leg of their semi-final meeting at Lee Valley the previous evening, falling to a 3-2 defeat.
But they were always up against the odds in the return, after Jake Sylvester’s early goal extended the home side’s aggregate advantage.
Juraj Huska doubled Chelmsford’s lead before the first break, with Danny Hammond making it 3-0 in the 28th minute.
An interference penalty against Raiders defenceman Stewart Tait allowed Huska to claim his second goal of the match on the powerplay, with Carl Graham firing home a fifth soon after.
Raiders avoided any further damage in the remaining 27 minutes of play, but could not find a consolation past former Romford junior Sonny Phillips either, as he recorded his second shutout of the season against them.
There was no denying Chieftains their place in the final, though, as they claimed an 8-2 aggregate victory and they will now take on Invicta Dynamos, who beat Streatham 12-4 on aggregate in their semi-final.
