London Raiders defenceman Jack Cooper netted his first Raiders goal on his 117th appearance for the team as they claimed an 11-1 victory against Invicta Dynamos.

The former Albany School student is pleased to have finally got off in his fourth term for the club as they cruised to two National League Cup points in Gillingham last night.

“It felt good to finally get that off my back and it was about time,” the 21-year-old said.

“There was part of me that thought it was never going to come but that wouldn’t bother me, as long as we win the game, I don’t care who scores.”

The stay-at-home defenceman was delighted with the team performance against the Dynamos and believes it was their best game yet.

“It did feel good turning Invicta over in there own barn,” Cooper said.

“It’s a hard place to go and play but we worked as a unit and out played them the whole game.

“It was the best we have played so far this season and has showed how good we can play.

“Everyone played for each other every shift and Kinger (Euan King) had a solid game in net.”

The Raiders fell to their third cup loss against London rivals Streatham as they lost 4-3 at Lee Valley the night before.

“The game against Streatham was disappointing, I believe we were the better team out there but we just made a few silly mistakes that they capitalised on.

“I am disappointed as we have been the better team and have our shot them every game but we have come up short every time.

“We did very well to take them to OT the other week and that showed great character.”

The gold and blue outfit currently sit second in the NIHL National Cup C behind Streatham after winning two of their five games.

“I am confident that we will make the quarter-finals and that’s what we have planned to do so we need to stick to our game plan every week and it will happen.”

The Lee Valley-based club will now take on ex-EPL clubs Basingstoke Bison and Swindon Wildcats this weekend and Cooper expects it to be a tough task.

“It will be good to play the bigger clubs to see how we fit in.

“I know it’s going to be a very tough weekend, but we need to take our confidence from Sunday into both games and focus on our own game.”
