London Raiders goalie Euan King was delighted to get one over former club Peterborough Phantoms at the weekend.

The Lee Valley-based club enjoyed a four-point weekend as they caused a major upset by beating league leaders Peterborough 6-3 away from home before sealing a 3-2 penalty shoot-out victory against Milton Keynes Thunder the following night.

“At the end of the day I’m still a Peterborough boy so going home and winning was massive for me on a personal level,” King said.

“I thought we went into Peterborough with the perfect game plan, Sean (Easton) set us up in a way that I think suited the rink and the style of team we were playing against.

“We played a great defensive road game and managed to hit them on the break and were clinical when we got our chances.

“It was our most complete performance to date.”

The 28-year-old revealed it felt great to be back playing after missing five weeks due to injury.

“It felt great to be back between the pipes as it’s been a frustrating month or so,” he said.

“The boys did an unreal job in front of me all night defensively and made my return a happy one.”

The former Peteborough and Chelmsford goalie admitted he’s still not fully fit and the team decided it was best for him to sit out the match against Milton Keynes.

“I’m still not fully fit and we decided that playing two games back-to-back wasn’t the best idea after a busy night Saturday.”

King believes his side weren’t up to scratch against Thunder but is pleased the character of the team is shining through as they still managed to pick up another two league points and remain in seventh spot in National League Division One South.

“MK was an odd game, I thought both teams weren’t completely at the races and it was a game of nothing,” he added.

“Maybe we had a little hangover from the night before. I don’t know, but we were nowhere near our best.

“The main positive to come out of Sunday, though, was although we didn’t play well we still managed to get the job done and take the two points which is what we need to do in games like that.”

Raiders will now host Streatham IHC at Lee Valley Ice Arena on Saturday (5.30pm) as they look to get revenge for three cup defeats earlier this season.
