London Raiders forward Ollie Baldock admits it’s a big weekend for his new club as they face two of their league rivals once again.

The Lee Valley-based outfit host Streatham tomorrow (Saturday (5.30pm) and visit Invicta Dynamos on Sunday (5.15pm) in the NIHL Cup.

Raiders have lost twice so far to Streatham and picked up one win against Invicta and this weekend is important to progress through the group stage or be on the brink of being knocked out.

“It’s a big weekend for us, we just need to carry on playing and training the way we are and then we are bound to pick up the points,” said 19-year-old Baldock.

“Invicta have always managed to put a good, competitive team on the ice, they’re a good team and always give a good competitive game.”

The former Chelmsford Chieftains player, who joined the Raiders this summer, also believes the team need to work harder and become more consistent to beat Streatham.

“We just need to carry on the way we have been, we just need to bare down in the games and it’s only a matter of time until we continue our climb,” he added.

The centre also revealed he is settling in well at the club and wants to continue improving his own game throughout the season.

“I am settling in great, I’m really enjoying it, feeling at home already, everyone is welcoming and the fans are great,” he said. “I can’t wait to carry on the season and to improve week by week.”

Baldock, who has picked up one goal and three assists in his first four games to date, is hoping Raiders can have a repeat of their 5-4 win against Invicta last weekend as he believes it was vital.

“The win against Invicta was huge, getting our first home win as well as getting our first points in the cup campaign was a positive step forward for us,” he said.

Baldockalso believes the team showed character despite losing to Streatham for a second time this season on Sunday.

The Raiders were trailing 2-0 going into the final 20 minutes of the match, but a brace from Slovakian Juraj Huska took the game to overtime and a penalty shoot-out.

“Yes of course it was disappointing, but coming back from a 2-0 deficit in the third showed great mental and physical strength,” said Baldock.
