The Lee Valley-based outfit welcome back well-travelled defenceman Connolly for his third campaign and he is pleased to be returning to the fold.

“I’m looking forward to returning to the Raiders,” said the 26-year-old.

“With the new league make-up it’s going to be an interesting year for sure.

“We’re putting together a pretty exciting team and I can’t wait to get started in September.”

The Scottish-born player, who has iced in the Elite League for Edinburgh Capitals and Braehead Clan, as well as for EPL sides Slough Jets, Manchester Phoenix and Milton Keynes Lightning, is hoping for a better campaign.

“I don’t think I had my best year last season, so I’m looking to have a more consistent season and hopefully not pick up any injuries,” he added.

The former Solway Sharks and Chelmsford Chieftains stay-at-home defenceman made 36 appearances and scored two goals and 12 assists last term and believes the Raiders can cause some upsets in the new format.

“I think we should be going into this new league season looking to compete every night and we should be looking to be the best NIHL team that is still remaining in the new system,” he said.

The club have also announced the re-signing of veteran defenceman Andy Munroe, who joined the team late last season, but still managed to pick up five points in 17 appearances.

Munroe has years of EPL and NIHL experience, icing for the Hull Stingrays, Peterborough Phantoms, Slough Jets, Bracknell Bees and Billingham Stars and is also ‘delighted’ to be back.

“I’m delighted to be returning to the Raiders for the coming season,” he said.

“I only iced for a few months at the end of last season due to work and life commitments, so it will be good to get a full pre-season behind me this year after missing most of last season.

“I’m looking forward to getting my skates back on and getting going.”
