London Raiders continue to build their roster with the re-signings of import forward Marek Nahlik and young defenceman Callum Burnett for the 2017/18 season.
The Lee-Valley based outfit welcome back Great Britain prospect Burnett for his first full season in senior hockey and he is relishing the chance.
The 16-year-old said: “Stepping up to senior hockey for sure challenged me, but in a great way. I feel so much more prepared to go into this next season and do well.
“I enjoy the challenge to always be at my best and perform to a good standard, so I have made sure that I’m ready during this off-season making every effort to be the best I can.”
Burnett joined the Raiders halfway through last season, once he was of eligible age to ice for the team, and went on to score his first goal for the team during his 16 appearances.
The former Romford and current Slough junior is excited and looking forward to returning to the club and the new challenges they face.
“I’m really excited for the new season and the challenges coming ahead with the new league,” he said.
“I’m really looking forward to getting back on the ice with the team, with our new guys coming in, and starting the season really well.”
The defenceman also admitted why he decided to return and has already set goals for the upcoming season.
“I decided to return because I couldn’t feel more at home than I did last year at the club,” Burnett admitted.
“I felt so welcome with the team and supporters. I want to do my best for the team to give back to everyone for all the support I’ve been given in the past year.
“The main target I have for this season is to perform to the best of my ability at all times and help the team achieve the highest place they can in the league the best I can.”
Joining him on the roster is Slovakian centre Nahlik, who returns to the club for a third season, after originally making the move to the UK midway through the 2013/14 season when he signed for rivals Invicta Dynamos.
Nahlik returned home the following season to ice for HKM Hummenne, before moving back to Britain permanently and signing for the Raiders, where he has since become a fans’ favourite.
He made 33 league appearances, scoring 31 goals and 21 assists for 52 points last term.
