London Raiders fell short despite a late comeback against their London rivals Streatham IHC in their last National Cup meeting of the season.

Having cruised to a 5-2 victory the night before against Invicta Dynamos and would have been hoping to make it two consecutive wins to take back into league action next weekend.

Sean Easton’s men got off to a slow start and found themselves 1-0 down after just seven minutes when Aidan Doughty picked out the back of the net from a Joe Allen pass.

The hosts then doubled their lead through Alexander Sampford after Jamies Hayes and Michael Farn linked up to find the winger in tight.

The second period was a stalemate between the two sides, as they both looked to desperately score the vital next goal, but neither could manage it.

The final stanza saw the Raiders claw their way back into the contest as defenceman Sean Barry fired a shot goalbound which took a few deflection and found the back of the net to make it 2-1.

Eight minutes from time Sampford scored his second of the net as he shot into the top right hand corner from the slot after Andreas Sigaris slid the winger in.

Streatham looked set to take the points, but Raiders didn’t go down without a fight, and Nahlik clawed another one back for his side but it was too little too late.

Scorers, Streatham: Alexander Sampford 2+0; Aidan Doughty 1+0; Michael Farn 0+1; Joe Allen 0+1; Jamies Hayes 0+1; Andreas Siagris 0+1.

Raiders: Marek Nahlik 1+0; Sean Barry 1+0; Olegs Lascenko 0+1.

Penalty minutes: Streatham 14 Raiders 8.

Shots on goal: Matthew Colclough (S) 5-19-11=35-2; Zach Grandy-Smith (L) 18-13-21=52-3
