East London enjoyed a decent start to the new season with seven wins and four draws in 17 matches.

The men’s first team hosted Havering at Lee Valley Hockey & Tennis Centre in East Premier B and Ben Gregory netted either side of a reply to secure a 2-1 win.

The seconds were 4-1 winners at Hertford, when man of the match Tom Collison cancelled out the home side’s early opener.

Ewan Duffin put East ahead in the second half, with Guy Perkins and Mark Williams adding further goals.

The thirds lost 5-2 to Wapping fifths, with Phil Knight and Alex Kickham scoring, as the fourths lost 1-0 to Wapping sevenths.

The fifths lost 6-1 to Wapping eighths, but the sixth team beat Wapping ninths by a 6-0 margin after last season’s promotion.

Jamie Rosser opened the scoring, with Tharun Puvaneswaran, man of the match James Lowson and James Lennard also netting to make it 4-0 at half time.

Captain Hiren Amin added the fifth after the restart, with Puvaneswaran completing the tally late on. But the sevenths lost 3-2 to Saffron Walden fourths as the eighths lost 2-0 to Romford seconds.

But the women recorded an emphatic 7-0 win over newly promoted Ashford, as Emily Menzies and Karen Allan struck in the first half.

Player of the match Allan scored twice more after the restart to complete a hat-trick and Menzies added her second, with Ailish Hendry and Nicky Sevel also notching.

The seconds drew 1-1 with their Wapping rivals, as Rachel Millar converted a short corner and Claire Bergin took the player of the match.

The thirds and fourths drew 0-0, with Kelly Pavier and Sinead Hackett named player of the match for their respective teams, while the fifths drew 2-2 with Wapping as Courtney O’Connor and Jessica Ellery struck.

Goals from Jasmine Newey and Abigail Taylor saw the sixth team to a 2-1 win over Wapping sevenths, with Stephanie Poon named player of the match, and the sevenths romped to a 7-0 win over Southend thirds.

The eighths beat the ninths 2-0 as debutant Gresa Pexhepi and Cathy Scott struck, with Phoebe Kiel, Jade Henderson and Emily Foan taking player of the match honours for their teams.
