Sultan Azlan Shah Cup pool stage: Argentina 1 England 1

A David Condon penalty corner kept England’s hopes of making the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup final alive with a 1-1 draw against Argentina.

England started well against with James Gall drawing an early save from keeper Juan Vivaldi.

Sam Ward and David Goodfield also went close to opening the scoring for England in a bright opening.

However, perhaps against the run of play, Argentina took the lead in the 41st minute when Juan Ignacio Gilardi scored with a penalty stroke.

Vivaldi denied England from responding quickly, denying Liam Ansell and Hampstead’s Harry Martin from netting an equaliser.

However, England’s pressure finally told in the 56th minute when David Condon scored to level the scores.

The English defence showed great resilience late on to keep the scores level and secure a draw for their team.

The draw means England are fourth in the table, two points outside of the top two and play hosts Malaysia in their final match on Friday.
