The latest from Wapping Hockey Club

Grant Aidoo Nash inspired Wapping men’s first-team to a 3-0 victory over Bedford firsts last weekend.

The Player of the Match got on the scoresheet alongside Adam Fallis and Will Cairns on a good day for the men.

Wapping’s seconds had to settle for a share of the spoils from their encounter with Waltham Forest ones.

It ended 2-2 after efforts by Alain Trail and Matt Sneddon were cancelled out by Forest despite the best efforts of Chris Monger, who claimed the Player of the Match.

There was better news for Wapping’s third-team after they managed to triumph 2-1 over Broxbourne firsts with Joe Trickett impressing.

Goals from James Mahon and Marin Holden-White were enough to give the thirds an excellent victory.

Wapping’s fourth XI went down by the same score, 2-1, to Witham’s first-team despite a strike by Santi Juareguizar.

Tom Hammond made a big contribution as the fifth side thrashed Brentwood twos 10-2 with Player of the Match Hammond grabbing four!

Ian Harman also caught the eye with a treble while Mark Rigby, Tarin Chana and Alistair Dance were also on target in the big win.

Brentwood’s first-team got an element of revenge with a 1-0 win over Wapping’s sixth XI despite Logan Riley getting the Player of the Match gong.

The last laugh went to the Wapping seventh side as they put six past Brentwood thirds to secure a 6-0 cruise.

Dave Bateman grabbed two while Ollie Freeman, Dan Lou, Tom Griffiths and Sam Peel also got in on the act and although he didn’t net, Julio Garay-Roa earned plaudits.

Wapping’s eighth team lost 5-1 to Rochester firsts with Alec Rossiter grabbing a mere consolation, but the ninth XI thrashed Basildon ones 6-0.

Sam Uden hit a hat-trick and Dan Scriven’s double and Matt Wheeler’s effort earned a comprehensive win while Witham’s fours defeated the Wapping 10th side 2-0.

Finally, the 11th team were only able to draw 2-2 with Old Southendians fours after a Hamish Tomlinson brace.

The women’s first team lost 1-0 to Broxbourne ones even with Kate O’Sullivan in fine form for Wapping.

Kate Silberman helped to inspire the seconds to a 2-0 victory over Brentwood’s first-team with Jessica Frith and Zara Reid on target.

Wapping’s third and fourth teams had to settle for a share of the spoils against each other with Heather Shand netting for the fours and Hattie Gaunt scoring for the third XI.

The fifth team lost 4-1 to Upminster’s threes despite Amy Christie’s goal, but the sixths won 2-0 at Southend and Benfleet twos.

Finally, the seven-team lost 5-3 to Waltham Forest’s thirds and the eighth side lost out 2-0 to East London’s eighths in a tight contest.
