Wapping 5 Holcombe 4
Wapping’s women came out on top after a nine-goal thriller with Holcombe in their East League Premier Division contest.
The home side made a strong start and took the lead when good build-up play and a hit into the D found Belinda Armstrong, who converted from close to the penalty spot.
Holcombe hit back to level, but Wapping continued to apply pressure and regained the lead with a well-worked short corner move that saw captain Lucy Todd sweep the ball to the far post for Kate Silbermann to deflect into the net.
The visitors were back on terms before the interval, but Wapping made a confident start to the second half, passing the ball around well.
And after some good link-up play between midfield and defence, the ball was sent towards the D for player of the match Jordan Mulvaney to deflect the ball home and make it 3-2.
Wapping opened up a two-goal cushion soon after as a shot from Lotta Paulus fell for Natasha Close to convert, but Holcombe would not lie down and scored twice more to level things up once again at 4-4.
More excellent team play from Wapping saw them claim the decisive goal, however, as a short corner move led to Francesca Sutton flicking home with eight minutes remaining.
The seconds lost 3-1 to Broxbourne, with Ruth Tilsley netting the consolation, but the thirds beat Thurrock by the same margin as Sophie Bennett struck twice and Natalie Stewart also netted.
The fourths went down 4-0 against Southend, while the fifths draw 1-1 with Upminster thirds as Lou Argles scored, but the sixth team beat Crostyx thirds by a 3-1 margin as Bee Hughes bagged a brace and Lauren Tranter also struck.
Two goals from Christina Cassidy and another from Ali Scott saw the sevenths to a 3-2 win over Braintree thirds, but the eighths lost 2-0 to East London sevenths in their derby battle.
