London Raiders forward JJ Pitchley is hoping it’s a case of fourth time lucky when his side meets Streatham this weekend.

The south London club won all three meetings between the sides in the National League cup earlier this season, by slender margins.

But Raiders will go into their latest clash at Lee Valley on Saturday (5.30pm) on a high, after recording their first four-point weekend in the league.

Raiders upset previously unbeaten leaders Peterborough with a 6-3 road win last Saturday, before beating MK Thunder on penalty shots the following night.

And they will hope to build on that momentum when they welcome Jeremy Cornish’s men back to Lea Bridge Road, with Pitchley saying: “I’m looking forward to Saturday. This is our fourth meeting with Streatham and unfortunately the previous games haven’t gone our way.

“But they were a few weeks back and I think we have come a long way as a group over the last few weeks, so I do believe we can take the points.”

Streatham have won their last three matches, against Swindon, Invicta and Cardiff, but are just one point above Raiders in the table having played three more games.

Pitchley added: “They have a lot of ex-EPL guys like Ryan Watt, Adam Carr and Michael Farn. They’re all experienced and talented guys who bring a lot to Corny’s side!.

“We just have to stick to the same game plan we did in Peterbourgh, play physical, get to loose pucks and play a very, very good defensive game.

“Our last few games have been a game of mistakes and we need to make less than Streatham on Saturday and force them to make mistakes and take advantage of them early to set the tone.”

The 23-year-old Pitchley, with 10 goals to his name already this season, believes Raiders are now showing signs of their potential under head coach Sean Easton and said: “I think some teams have taken us lightly because of the changes made over the summer, but we have proved a handful of times we are a force not to be taken easy.

“We will hit, block shots and play old school hockey in order to get the job done. As a unit we are still on par with goals we set at the start of the season.

“We just need to keep competing night in, night out and grind teams down in order to take advantage of them.”
