London’s Stuart Hayes will represent Team GB in the men’s triathlon at this summer’s Olympics.

Isleworth-born Hayes, 33, started swimming at Hounslow and converted to triathlon aged 15.

Coached by fiancée Michelle Dillon, West Ham fan Hayes has enjoyed must success on the ITU circuit and will act as a domestique in the Hyde Park race to aid teammates Alistair and Jonny Brownlee in their quest for medals.

He said: “I cannot put into words how happy I am for being selected for the Olympics.

“I’ve been in the sport for 12 years and have missed out on the Olympics twice. I finally feel that all my hard work, determination and dedication has paid off.

“Making this Olympics is pretty special for anyone, but for me it just feels even more special.

“It’s in London, my home town. My family will be there with me who just live down the road.

“I’m honoured to have been given this opportunity and am excited to race in front of all my family and friends on home soil.”
