Following the success of recent sell-out shows in Brussels and Paris, the group, which formed in 1980, visit the Commercial Road venue on December 10.

Against the backdrop of the former art-deco cinema, they can be expected to treat fans to favourites including Blue Monday, True Faith and Temptation.

Staff at the Troxy expected tickets to sell out within the first hour.

Formed from the ashes of post-punk group Joy Division following the suicide of lead singer Ian Curtis, New Order have enjoyed a tumultuous history and were the flagship band for cult label Factory Records.

Original members Bernard Sumner (vocalist and guitarist) and Stephen Morris (drums), along with Gillian Gilbert (keyboard, guitar), Phil Cunningham (guitar, keyboards) and Tom Chapman (bass), make up the line-up.

Tickets are available at 0884 888 0440, at www.troxy.co.uk or at www.ticketline.co.uk.
