A month-long celebration of the photographic arts is taking place across east London.

More than 150 exhibitions, talks, walks and workshops have been lined up in more than 85 galleries during Photomonth 09.

Among the highlights is a free photography fair at Spitalfields Traders Market with up to 100 artists displaying their work.

Today's (Saturday's) fair is an ideal opportunity to see new work, buy prints and commission photographers.

Tomorrow (Sunday), an interactive photography treasure-hunt for the public takes place with great prizes up for grabs.

Participants sign up in teams of two to four and are tasked with deciphering clues that will lead them to destinations around Spitalfields.

Having deciphered the clues, teams construct creative photographs to portray the answers.

Other highlights include the Beautiful Freaks exhibition at the trendy Dalston Superstore club in Kingsland High Street, which is showing until November 8.

Artists Ralf Obergfell and Tony Hornecker have traipsed through London's dance floors of past and present to gather a collection of portraits of the scenes' beautiful creatures of the night

Meanwhile Hackney photographer Alan Denney is showing a series of images recording ordinary people's lives in Hackney from 1978 to 1986.

The photographs will be available for public view at Chats Palace in Brooksby's Walk, Homerton, until November 22.

To apply for a stall at the Photofair in Spitalfields email info@alternativearts.co.uk or call 020 7375 0441.

Tickets for the treasure hunt cost £15 per person and booking is essential. To sign up and find out more go to www.shootexperience.com
