Fun days get going for kids to get going at Mile End and Victoria Park

Family activity days get going today for kids to ‘get going’ during the school holidays in London’s East End.

Youngsters aged five to 16 are being urged to do at least 60 minutes of physical activity a day while their mums and dads are also being recommended to make sure they’re active for 150 minutes a week, all to get hearts beating faster to burn off calories and prevent excess body fat.

A programme of activities runs through August and September, coordinated as part of the nationwide ‘Change4Life’ campaign by Tower Hamlets council.

It starts today with two events, a children’s healthy fun day at Mile End Play Pavilion in Locksley Street, 1-3pm, and a ‘sports and healthy living’ day at Victoria Park, 12.30-4pm.

Around Poplar Children’s Centre is throwing a street party on Friday week (August 30) at Three Colt Street in Limehouse.

Events next month include Poplar Festival at Chrisp Street Market on September 8 and the Aberfeldy Wellbeing Festival at Poplar’s Aberfeldy estate on September 14, from 1pm to 5pm, both laid on by the Harca housing organisation.
