A DUO of musical masterpieces is set to raise the roof of the Empire as musicians perform in the Hackney Proms as part of this year's Spice Festival.

Internationally acclaimed singer and composer Helen Chadwick will lead an a capella group which will bring together a feast of musical harmonies from a wide range of genres including blues, folk and jazz.

The concert, starting at 6pm tomorrow (Sunday) is a celebration of the life and work of the late Hackney GP Dr Gaby Tobias who passed away in August last year.

A tribute to all those who inspire, the performance precedes Hackney Proms' second Spice Festival showcase on Tuesday, July 14 at 7.30pm when period instrument ensemble Battuta take to the Empire stage.

Joined by baritone Thomas Guthrie and pianist Davis Owen Norris, the nine-piece present an evening of 1820's chamber music and songs by the old masters Bach, Handel and Haydn.

Tickets cost £7-£12.50 form www.hackneyempire.co.uk or 020 8985 2424.
