WEIRD and wonderful clothes are on show as London's young, independent designers clamour to show their collections in the East End at Alternative Fashion Week from Monday (April 21).

The five-day festival of fashion fills Old Spitalfields Market with catwalk shows and stalls where cool hunters and the world's press scout out the designer talent of tomorrow.

More than 60 young designers have been selected to show off their work from hundreds of applications, some independents hoping to establish their labels, others recent fashion and textile graduate.

This week-long event is the alternative for young designers to present their work directly to the press, the public and the fashion industry itself.

Audiences can expect anything from elegant to edgy, with a dozen designers on show each day as models sashay down the runway in London Fashion Week's 'little sister.'

Sartorial advisors Trinny and Susannah have challenged designers to come up with a collection for larger sizes 18-30.

A fashion market surrounding the catwalk opens noon to 3pm each day selling clothes, textiles and accessories.

Catwalk shows open to the public daily at 1.15pm with live jazz from The Groove Collection, admission free, at Old Spitalfields Market in Brushfield-street, off Commercial-street.
