AFRICAN culture will be celebrated at an all-day arts and music festival in Bethnal Green.

The Afri-Kokoa festival takes place at Rich Mix in Bethnal Green Road today (Saturday) from 2pm-1am.

Daytime activities at the event include African drumming workshops and storytelling for the young.

Storytelling sessions will be led by professional actor, dancer, percussionist and storyteller Usifu Jalloh whose unique skills introduce audiences to West African traditions and cultures.

There will also be classic African games for the family in the café area and outside in the courtyard as well as face painting, jewellery and music instrument making sessions.

The wild and exuberant Yaaba Funk headlines evening entertainment.

The 10-piece Afro-beat band will be performing their distinctive blend of 70s Ghanaian funk and dub.

DJ entertainment will be provided by Miles Cleret, with a selection of classic African funk soul, the dance sounds of Afro warriors Eric Soul and African Mc Dou G, and Afri-Kokoa resident DJs AJ Kwame and Baggy.

New music will also be showcased in the evening's AfroTalent show.

Entry for the all-day event is free before 7pm and £6 for the evening DJ mix.
