The world’s biggest sleeping bag was unrolled last night breaking two word records when the stars came out to sleep rough at Canary Wharf.

A record 100 volunteers braved the chilly temperatures and snuggled up in the bag laid out at West India Quay in the old Millwall Docks.

They included Downton Abbey’s Allen Leech and TV sports presenter Charlie Webster, while James Bond actor Colin Salmon entertained the ‘rough sleepers’ with the White Room band from Brighton.

The ‘sleep out’ event raised public attention and cash for the Centrepoint homeless charity.

“The sleeping bag is huge, but barely a fraction of the 80,000 homeless young people in Britain each year would fit in it,” Centrepoint’s Victoria Parker explained. “Homeless youngsters have fear and uncertainty facing this Christmas without shelter.”

Firms including Puffa jackets and Snugpak manufacturers got together to create the gigantic sleeping bag measuring 30ft by 60ft, the height of a five-storey building.

The giant bag almost broke at the seems, but instead broke two world records, one for the biggest-ever sleeping bag and another for the most number of people in one bag.

They squeezed 100 eager volunteers into it—well, it kept them warm on a chilly November night.
