The operators of the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) have been rewarded for a successful Olympic year with a 100m 18-month contract extension.

Transport for London announced today (Monday) that it has taken up the option to retain the services of Serco Docklands Ltd until September 2014.

The firm, which has had responsibility for the DLR since 1997, will continue to operate DLR trains, as well as maintaining almost the entire network and looking after stock.

Liam Fox, who is the director of DLR, said: “I am pleased to announce the extension of this contract and the continuation of a successful working partnership that has seen the DLR expand its network, increase its capacity by 50 per cent and successfully meet the challenge of the Olympics, when the network carried more than 100 per cent more customers than normal.”
