THE CABLE roof has been lifted into place over the 2012 Olympic stadium as builders reach another milestone in the Olympic park.

The roof will be covered over next spring to protect athletes and spectators from the elements.

More than 900 tonnes of scaffolding and a kilometre of support platforms were used to assemble the intricate network of walkways around the roof.

The painstaking work took four weeks and 56 hydraulic lifts were used to lift the 450 tonne structure into place.

The stadium is due to be finished next summer ready for trial events to check for any teething problems.
